“Of the various elements of the population, no one shows more characteristic traits that Albanians, a breed that appears to have the largest cranial capacity in Europe. Albanians skulls show the most superior race of Europe. Meanwhile, Virchow was so convinced about scientific answers to the Albanian race that addresses to the Berlin Congress to preserve this rare breed. They didn’t listen to him. In 1915, after the unfair division of the Albanian territories, Albania was threatened again by a new cleavage. It was the year of the Secret Treaty of London. In this year, Faik Bey Konica, a famous Albania intellectual, agitates for next injustices being made towards them. At that time he was in Lausanne, Switzerland. On 12 November of 1915, he sent an open letter to Mr. Hans Delbruck, (close adviser to the government, a professor of modern history at the University of Berlin). In this letter is that among others it refers to the Virchow-t, to show the German professor Hans Delbruck features the nation. Here’s what other things Faik Bey Konica writes: “… I can inform you of the existence of a Bulgarian-Greek Treaty for Albania’s separation, a suggested treaty, approved, sealed and guaranteed by Germany. For this reason, I dare to ask you a question. How will you reach to reconcile with the brutal plan for the partition of Albania? …Here’s one place, which is a nation that is in the category of ‘small nationalities’ and that would merit, in particular, your kindness and appreciation. Hasn’t your Mommseni said that the Albanian nation is the oldest in the Balkans? Hasn’t your Virchow called it ‘the superior nation’ of Eastern Europe? Haven’t your scholars repeated at any time that the Albanian distinguish from its neighbors by their language and soul?”

albanian-world-dimensionProfessor Virchow was one of the most prominent scientists of the time and that was noticed easily. Blowitz reinforces this idea even more in his article. It seems that this famous name was made Blowitz article publish at the same time with the Times, even in the most remote corner of the world, New Zealand (“Dr. Virchow on skulls”, New Zealand 22 November 1878). Here’s how Blowitz describes the meeting in the house of Professor Virchow: “In his museum in 1878, while was being held the Great Congress in Berlin, the day after the Russo-Turkish War (note, A. Hitoaliaj) when was being spoken for various Balkan races, scholar doctor (Professor Virchow ) rose suddenly: ‘Look!’ – he said. ‘This is the indeed superior race of these countries. Look at these! ‘He put in front of us three skulls with an equal conformation. ‘One of your colleagues sent me first and then I shot up the other two. Skulls are from the Albanians killed by the Turks. Look at them carefully! Aren’t they beautiful?! Aren’t they magnificent or not?!’ Virchow’s assertions were so famous for that time, that there were cases when they were taken as a comparative indicative of superiority. The goals why these comparisons were made are not more important than the fact that referred to anthropological science as unassailable element. The greatest Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu said ‘Pure Albanian race is the first of the ancient empire of the East”. Albanian race has not only brought a gun men, but also men of the mind and spirit, philosophers, lawyers, statesmen, scientists, writers, scholars, poets and artists of bounds. Number of heard people, known as Albanians, should be added to a larger unknown number, kept as bare of any other nation and that we do not know the names of them. Professor Stillman (famous German anthropologist) in a conversation he has with Professor Virchow about Pelasgians and from this sends him skulls of Albanians. The pelages race, for which Stillman had once talked with the professor, was exactly Albanians. Otherwise why would he mention it when aimed to seize the Albanian skull? (A.H) To discover our origins and to recognize ourselves, we should pay due diligence to study of race, who would have equally importance, if not, a larger one. (Jakov Milaj 1911-1997). The contribution that this breed has brought to the world, in proportion to the number of the conditions in which he lived; it is not put behind other neighboring races. It shows that its spiritual dowry is large and diverse.” People who have had to do with the Illyrians over the centuries have been colonizers, military occupier or stray immigrants. They did not have equal contact with the entire Illyrian crowd spread in a great territory. Their suppression has been stronger for several tribes, but not for some others. Some of these people marked only in civilization, while others have left much blood in these tribes. Only one group of Illyrians who later came to be known as Albanians stayed with the cleanliness and, although it felt the foreign civilization, remained almost completely intact for the race. ”
