The former Albanian president, Alfred Moisiu commented today on the recent events in Kumanova.
Speaking at a conference entitled “The Albanian factor and the Macedonian perspective” Mr. Moisiu said that the situation in the neighboring country resembles the end of the Milo-shevic governance. He said:
“The situation in Macedonia is concerning for the region, and the Albanians. What happened in Kumanova was not a police intervention, but a military intervention. It wasa battle of army forces. By undertaking such an operation in a populated area, the Macedonian government wanted to show its military force, in order to demonstrate its political force. The Ohrid agreement is very good, but Macedonia has never fully followed it. It seems like internal and external pressures from Serbia or Russia have caused this situation. There have always been problems with the treatment of the Albanians there. I think the situation in Macedonia is concerning”-said the former president.
